Can you tell me anyone who never made a mistake in his blogging journey?
No one, because no one is perfect in this world and everyone making a mistake. Me you even professional bloggers also made a blogging mistake in their blogging journey.
Yes, I made mistakes, it’s not one, two or three, there are more than ten mistakes I had made in my blogging journey.
Every blogger has own story of blogging mistakes in his blogging journey. You also have one when you have started your blogging career.
These mistakes are worth learning and we have to take a lesson from that, but repeating those mistakes can cause you long time.
These are silly blogging mistakes we made as a newbie, but if neglect those mistakes these can affect on your blog for a long time. I also have made the same silly blogging mistakes that cause me in term of traffic, revenue, relations and time. I lose my traffic, decrease in Alexa rank, poor Adsense revenue score, lost the relations with readers and waste my time.
I don’t want to let his happen to you in your blogging Journey. These silly blogging mistakes can cause a lot.
What are those blogging mistakes I have made in my blogging journey, let’s take a look.
Blogging Mistakes No 1: Being lazy
Yes, I am lazy. I don’t know about you, but I am.
I am too lazy to update my blog every time. I am too lazy to write every great idea I had on a paper. I want everything easily. I don’t want to do much hard work to achieve the success.
I forget that achieving success is not that an easy. I forget that God has made a food for us, but we have to work hard to earn that, this is the reason why farmers are doing hard work day and night to earn those foods.
There is no substitute for hard work. If you want to achieve a success, then you need to work hard.
You don’t get everything easily because others are working hard more than you are. If we get everything easily, then we had no value in that.
Therefore, avoid being lazy and become more productive. It is more beneficial than being lazy in your rest of life. Right?
Tips: Avoid laziness and start becoming productive. Laziness may harm your career and destroy your online business, which is just start expanding. Do exercise; keep your mind fresh and focus on work. This will help you to avoid the laziness.
Blogging Mistakes No 2: Not maintain the post frequency
I really apologies for not maintaining my blog post frequency in past years due to my illness and other factors. I am not able to get time to post even a single article for a month, that is my fault.
This mistake can cause me by losing my more valuable audience due to not maintaining post frequency and I have to work harder to regain reader’s trust and earn their interest again in my blog.
Now I realize why blog post frequency is important for a blog. Users revisit your blog to see a new post and what’s happening on your blog. If you don’t keep them updating or they haven’t seen a new post within month they stop visiting your website and your online business start decreasing.
This mistake affects a lot in terms of traffic, revenue and Alexa ranking.
Tips: Try to maintain your post frequency at least one blog post in a month to keep users engaging. If you not able to maintain this post frequency, you also lose your valuable audience like I had. Post frequency is more important for your online business, that’s why other popular bloggers keep updating their blog on a regular basis.
Blogging Mistakes No 3: Never reply to a comment
In past years, I never reply to comments, which users post on my blog. I become little greedy that time with my blog because it is growing faster. I feel very bad for this blogging mistake and it causes me a lot.
This blogging mistake affects on my blog, I have lost my regular readers and their trust in me.
I forget that, how replying every comments are important to build relationship with readers. It helps you to build relation with readers force them to come back again to visit your website. This method will also help you to build trust among your readers and show your helpfulness to readers.
Tips: Try to reply every comment posted by your blog readers on your blog. It helps you to build mutual relations and trust with your readers. If you fail to maintain this, you will also lose your readers like I have. So be helpful, reply to every comment on your blog and try avoiding spammy comments on your blog.
Blogging Mistakes No 4: Not build an email list early
Why email list is important for your blog? (To increase your affiliate earning, sales and profit.)
No, you are thinking wrong. Email list helps to achieve those things, but most important, it will help you to build traffic for your blog. Look at the Neil Patel, Pat flynn, Jeff Bullas, they build an email list to drive traffic to their websites and keep user’s updated. They lesser promote affiliate product from their email list.
I made this biggest mistake and not collected the emails of my readers from the beginning. This mistake causes me a lot and I loosen my thousands of visitors and hundreds of dollars profit of my blog by not collecting their email.
I strongly recommend you to build your email list from day one and never neglect this for your online business. Always try to provide and useful info to your users and keep them updated. Never send too much of affiliate email to your readers, it’s cause you from losing your valuable readers of your blog.
Tips: Focus on building your quality email list from day one. There are many paid and free email building tools are available for you. Use them for your online business to grow. I suggest you to go with madmimi. It offers you up to 2500 users free and you can send up to 12500 emails in a month. Isn’t it great for a newbie blogger.
Blogging Mistakes No 5: Not optimize posts properly
I don’t know what SEO is and what it can do, in my past years of blogging. I was completely newbie at that time.
If you saw my previous past post about blogging, it is not well optimized and poorly written. This mistake causes me in poor organic traffic to my blog. I lose my value in search engine, but thanks to WordPress and its repository, I am now able drive a good amount of organic traffic to my blog.
I focus mainly on this mistake and make many improvements in my SEO techniques. Now I am able to drive a good quality organic traffic to my blog every day.
Tips: As a newbie blogger’s first focus on SEO and learn it. It is most important element to drive organic traffic to your blog. It is not hard to learn some basic element of SEO at the beginning, but this will help a lot. I do this mistake and its effect on my blog growth, but you don’t repeat it.
Blogging Mistakes No 6: Never use the benefits of Guest Blogging
Recently, Google penalizes a largest guest blogging network. Why Google took this step, I don’t know, but now I am cursing myself for not using the benefit of guest blogging as early.
Before it gets too late, to take a benefit of guest blogging, I post some post on other blogs to join the wave of guest blogging. After posting some post on another blog, within the two weeks, I had seen the good sign from my guest blogging post.
Guest blogging is important for you. It helps you to build your brand, create networks with other bloggers and establish your authority. If you want to build strong authority, then get started with guest blogging.
Tips: Start guest blogging early as possible, but before applying for guest blogging maintain at least 50 good quality posts at your blog. This is a good sign to get you accept fast for guest posting by other bloggers.
Blogging Mistakes No 7: Never build relations with other bloggers
I am so greedy with my blog in past years. I am getting a good amount of referral traffic from other blogs. I have not needed the networking with others at that time.
I underestimate the power of networking with others, therefore I never try to build a relationship with other active bloggers.
Why this networking is important?
There are many benefits of building networks with other bloggers. You can ask for help, reviews, technical helps, guest posting, etc. This networking helps you long time. This is a best way to survive in blogging and help each other to grow.
Tips: Networking is the most important element in blogging. Connect other blogger using social media, email them, comment on their blog regularly. These things help you to build relations with other bloggers and get you noticed by them.
Blogging Mistakes No 8: Never read the other bloggers blog post
Why I need to read other blogs, I have my own blog to publish an invite other people’s to read it.
But later I understand my this mistake. Without having a proper knowledge, how can you entertain your online readers? You are a newbie or have years old in blogging and if you don’t keep proper updates or knowledge, you are going to end your online business.
Many well established bloggers are still using advantage of other probloggers knowledge to keep readers entertaining. You are not a master or have an experience in blogging properly. Without gaining the knowledge, you are going to lose your audience and it is harmful for your online business.
So, gain the maximum knowledge first, keep updating yourself with industry trends and then spread your own words to your online readers. This method also helps you to build your own persona online.
Tips: Go and visit other popular blogs. Read their blog post, which they have published on their blog. It will help you to gain knowledge and keep updating with industry trends. Learn how they present their thoughts through their blog and try to learn those skills.
Blogging Mistakes No 9: Never build social branding
I am an addict of social media like Facebook, twitter and Google +. I spend hours of time with hanging out with my online friends, updating my status and photos.
I never realize the power of social media for my online business. This is my biggest blogging mistake, I have ever made in my blogging journey.
Social media has a great influencing power. It helps to create your brand awareness and spread the word of mouth, but I underestimate this power of social media. Year of later I realize my mistake and then I start building my online presence.
This blogging mistake harms my online reputation lot and I lost my valuable followers and likes in the last years of spans.
Tips: Social media has a great branding power. Focus to build your online presence from day one. It will helpful for gain traffic as well as online branding. This helps you to do free publicity of your online brand.
Blogging Mistakes No 10: Waste more time on social media
As I said recently, I am an addict of social media and love to hang out with my online friends. I spend hours of my time with chatting, tweeting, status updating, tagging and many more things.
Now I realize this is a waste of time and you become lazy and addict. This mistake effects on my blogging productivity. If I utilized these wasted time on my social media, branding and blogging then I will definitely produce good results from it.
I suggest you to avoid using social media for time wasting and become productive, use it for social branding purpose. It is more beneficial for you and your online business for gaining a trust with your online audience
Tips: Social media have its plus point and negative points also. Use it for building networks and online business branding. Stop spending too much of time on it and become productive. It will give you a good return for a long time in your online business.
Blogging Mistakes No 11: Never treat blogging as a business
This is my mistake that, I never treat my blogging as a business. I always consider it as a hobby. This blogging mistake cause on my productivity.
Blogging as a business and as a hobby are two different things. If you treat as a business, then it helps you to increase your productivity and branding. If you treat it as a hobby, it reduces your productivity and kill your online business.
Look at other probloggers like Copyblogger, QuickSprout and ShoutMeLoud, they treat their blogging as a business. Therefore, they produce maximum productivity and make a living from it.
Tips: Always consider your blogging as a business. This will help you to maximize your productivity and plan your future growth for your online business. Never see it as a hobby or it will kill your online business.
Conclusion:
In my past year I have made many blogging mistakes in my journey. I am not able to focus on my blog in the past year. I have wasted lots of time in other activity rather than focus on blogging.I never treat my blogging as my online business. These mistakes cause me a lot and reduces my productivity.
I don’t want to let his happen to you. Take a lesson from these mistakes, which I have made and keep yourself productive in your blogging journey.

Hello Nikhil,
A very nice article about mistakes made by bloggers. I really agree with your first two points. Being Lazy and not updating posts regularly. Most other points mentioned here are pretty important too.
The points you mentioned forms a base for blogging and treating it as a business.
But if you’d allow me to point out some mistakes. There are many sentence framing mistakes all over the article; which I think gives a very bad impression.
To be true I really love the article but due to wrong sentence framing I wasn’t getting attached to the article.
Some mistakes I’d like to point out.
Therefore, avoid being a lazy and become more productive
Correction: Therefore, avoid being lazy and (try to) be productive.
If you not able to maintain this post frequency, you also lose your valuable audience like mine
Correction: If you are not able to maintain *particular* post frequency, you tend to lose your valuable audience just like I did.
These were couple of mistakes I pointed out. To be helpful I would like you to read this article which I guess will help you very much.

Have a Great Day….
Hi Nikhil,
That was some insight on how to fail.
I must admit that I am lazy and all the other mistakes follow from it. In that sense, you did the justice by numbering laziness as #1 mistake.
I was too lazy and I have killed one of my blog. I call it as a “Blogging Suicide”. I still maintain it by renewing the domain and paying the hosting charges. I hope to believe that one day that blog will get resurrected.
I believe if you became highly successful blogger, one could start making mistakes #2, #3 and #4. But, that are of course exceptional cases. Indeed they do post articles then too, it’s just that they will be doing it with a less frequency.
Have a nice weekend.

PS: I ended up here from Kingged.com where I kingged this cool article.
Hi Jakes,
I feel so sad that your blog gets killed. Try to learn and avoid these mistakes, it will help you.
I agree that most of the time bloggers repeat the mistakes #2, #3, #4, but to avoid these most of the time bloggers choose guest posts option to maintain frequency.
Have a nice weekend.
Hi Nikhil,
It has being a while since I visited your blog. Let me please complement for such a nice blog before I move to the main issue on board.
These mistakes are being realised on many blogs and laziness is what is topping the list.
You are right Emmanuel, If we want to produce better results, so we have to avoid the laziness…..
Hi Nikhil,
Nice points listed by you. Post frequency matters a lot.I too agree with Emmanuel that laziness is the main reason behind all these mistakes.
Thanks for sharing this post
Hi Kuldeep, I hope you enjoy this post. Keep Visiting….
Hi Nikhil,
Oh yes…being bloggers, we all have made mistakes, so you surely aren’t the only one there
I think when we make mistakes, we learn and get better, though you need to work for that, isn’t it? I remember the time when I was a new blogger and I didn’t get many comments on my blog, which disheartened me. But that was because I was new to blogging with no blogger friends, coming from the writers field.
But when I learnt how you need to visit each others blogs and build relationships with fellow bloggers that now has turned into good friendship, there was no looking back. Yes, all this takes time, effort, determination, and patience. But then who said blogging was easy
There is absolutely no time for being lazy, and consistency and commitment are two pillars you base your blog and blogging on. I feel horrible when I cannot reply to all the comments on my blog, which happens sometimes if I am caught up with work at home or my pending writing projects, but I do in time, slow and steady. Also, not to forget to visit other blogs, and share their posts also, isn’t it?
Thanks for sharing. Have a nice weekend
Hi Harleena,
Thank you for sharing your view. I agree with you that, the relationship is most the important for bloggers and it takes time to build the relationship with other fellow bloggers. All the successful blogs did not get built overnight, it takes time and one day we also reach at that status. Just be committed.
Thank you. Have a nice weekend….
Quite stupid mistakes 😉
I was guilty of not starting a list early enough and lost many of my readers to the unlimited world of the Internet 😉
Hi Enstine,
I also made the same mistake and lost many of subscribers of my blog….
Hello Nikhil,
Very informative post indeed.
I have seen many bloggers not maintaing relationships with other bloggers due to which they fail and finally give up. One should keep building relationships with others as this is a must for every blog to survive in the blogosphere.
I truly agree with your 11th point that we should not treat blogging as a business. One is successful only if he is passionate about it. Generally, many bloggers think about earning bucks and they choose the current profitable niche without thinking whether they are having any interest in that or not. This makes them fall.
One should choose the niche in his interest and make it profiatable. Am I right?
Hi Nikhil,
Yes, you are right. Choosing a niche in which you have interest and passion is most important things in blogging.
I hope you enjoy this post.:)
Keep Visiting. Have a great weekend…

one more thing add in bonus that is never do unique with your blog.
i see all newbies blogger try to copy from probloggers that is bad thing

Hi Prakash,
You are right uniqueness is matters. Copy-paste creates a bad impression in search engine.
